Ugly Food and Bad Cooking
Full confession: I make ugly food. Don’t get me wrong, it tastes amazing, but whatever the gene is that allows for amazing, perfect looking food is…I don’t have it. I can make the perfect first pancake, golden, fluffy, and cooked all the way through, but odds are, it’s going to be lumpy.
I look in awe at sites like A Pinch of Yum (also started by a teacher!) with awe, and a bit of jealousy. Not just the photography talent, but the food looks so good!
Just look at my most recent batch of cookies. One sheet was marginally photographic. One sheet never browned (tasted great!). One sheet over-cooked (break out the milk!). Ugly food! But I’ll let you in on a secret.
I LOVE to cook. I love trying new recipes, and experimenting. I love trying to see what I can make. Sometimes it’s great, and sometimes it’s a complete disaster. But I’d rather present the results here, as they are. And if your food isn’t perfect, maybe it’ll give you some comfort. We can’t all be Pinterest cooks!
Have you seen Minimalist Baker? Absolutely fantastic. I just ate, and I’m hungry just browsing. I have a long ways to go.
But in the meantime, I want to show off my ugly food. This salmon was delicious…once I scraped off the spilled parsley. I’ll bet your is delicious too!
